Wynyard Bridge Gateway
An open competition winner

Durham Council with funding from Sustrans and the Millenium Commission

The artistic intervention is designed to address the gateway brief. The two 'fan'-like profiles over sail the deck and their geometry is designed to add visual interest to a standard cable stay bridge design.
The four colour fans create a dramatic visual effect for those traversing the bridge either on foot or bicycle as well as creating a gateway from both the Sedgefield and the A19.
Project completed in 2001, unveiled by the Prime Minister Tony Blair.
