Car Free London Competition
The Thames Linear Park, Wellington Sq., London

Winner Car Free London Competition

The competition was organised in 1999 by the Architectural Foundation

The Thames Linear Park
The proposal explores the possibility of creating car free environments within the conditions of present London through providing a dedicated pedestrian/cycle route on a suspended river deck over the South Bank of the Thames from Greenwich to Battersea.

Wellington Square
The proposal explores the possibility of creating a new car free square within the conditions of present London. The new square would link Hyde Park and St. James with a dramatic green landform and thus provide a new sense of continuity.
The proposal also involves submerging vehicular traffic under the square and an integrated public transport interchange.
