Three Rivers Park, Pittsburgh, USA

The Riverlife Task Force

Art2Architecture in collaboration with DPA Lighting is the winner of an international competition for the public realm design-led lighting strategy of the Three Rivers Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - the largest river front regeneration project in the USA.

The shoreline and the confluence of the three rivers: Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio will be developed to form a unique substantive public realm as a part of a regeneration strategy addressing the almost total absence of the steel making industry in the area at present. As important as the shoreline's connection with the water is the park's connection with the land and neighbourhoods helping the entire region to reinvent its identity and relationships with the rivers, firmly establishing them in their rightful place as centres of community life.

The Three Rivers Park project is already associated with extensive new developments such as the recently completed Convention Centre by Rafael Vinoly Architects and two new sports stadiums. Art2Architecture will build on work already undertaken by Chan Krieger Associates and Hargreaves Landscape Architects. The project is commissioned by the Riverlife Task Force, an umbrella organization representing the private and public organisations and investors in Pittsburgh.
