Blackpool Swiveling Shelter Design

   

RIBA open competition finalist

   

The design addresses several main areas of opportunity;
The animation of the South Shore with a kinetic presence of the three revolving shelters accentuated by extended wind/light wands.
The requirement of providing dry and un-blown protection for people in a manner which allows an easy reconfiguring of the protective screens in direct response to existing weather conditions.
The structural concept has been developed around an inherently stable tetrahedral form derived from a cone. The base of the tetrahedron is a stiffened steel grillage that will incorporate the connection to the bearing below.
